The memories of the Wicker Basket and the significance that it had in my childhood are vivid. For my father to come home with a single Wicker Basket of mulloway was a disappointment but 6 laden with freshly run sea bream was cause for much celebration in our family. Today as an ode to the past, the Wicker Basket has pride of place in our household as a reminder of years gone by. The overflowing Wicker Basket was always a measure of success, a reward for hard work, for experience and a healthy dose of good fortune. Wicker Basket will always represent the best of what we do, made in only the years where we have an outstanding parcel, in tiny quantities.
Sourced from Tim & Cyd James Hope Forest dry grown vineyard in the southern Adelaide hills. Gunshot ironstone pebble and quartz with shallow top soils are key features of this site planted in the 1990’s. A select portion of handpicked fruit was fermented in a single small open fermenter with the inclusion of whole bunches and fermented on skins for 14 days. Pressed to seasoned French oak barriques for 14 months with barrel selection to produce only 80 cases.
Bursting with vibrant fruit flesh of red plums and cherry, balanced by seasoned oak influence & sinewy savoury fine tannins. The medium bodied palate has purity of fruit coupled with Adelaide Hills natural acidity and together with layers of spice and structural finesse lead to a wine of great interest and depth of flavor.
Food match – BBQ beef fillet with grilled asparagus and roasted potatoes.
Cellar for up to 15 + years in appropriate cellar conditions.
