2016 James Halliday Wine Companion

“Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality, and did so this year.”

We were thrilled to be named as a 5 star winery again this year in James Halliday’s 2016 Wine Companion.

96 POINTS Blood Knot McLaren Vale Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2013

“The percentage contribution of the two regions isn’t specified, but the wine is exceptionally rich, complex and deeply layered, the flavours running through black fruits, licorice and black pepper.  Given the intensity of the fruit, it is not surprising that the oak seems to make little impression, the tannins also swallowed by the fruit, but there nonetheless.”

95 POINTS Wicker Basket  Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2013
“Vivd crimson; this is an exercise in studied elegance, far removed from Blood Knot; spice, pepper and black licorice underpin the red and black cherry fruit flavours, superfine tannins rippling through the medium-bodied palate. I feel guilty in not giving this wine the same (or better) points than Blood Knot, so blame my perfidious palate.”

94 POINTS Albright McLaren Vale Grenache 2013

“From the Onkaparinga Gorge and Clarendon districts of McLaren Vale.  It has the bright crimson colour, generous array of red fruits, and fine, but persistent tannins so typical of top quality McLaren Vale Grenache in a great vintage.  The oak is not obtrusive, allowing the varietal expression free play.”

94 POINTS Bimini Twist McLaren Vale Grenache Rose 2014

“Half was fermented and stored in barrel; the other was fermented to dryness on skins and then run to old oak. The result has a clear textural element and more than a little complexity. It tastes of earth, spice, sweet raspberry and woodsmoke, in that order, with a lipsmacking dryness to the finish. Immaculate and delicious.”
